There are numerous attractive and interesting towns to visit ranging from bastides such as Monpazier to the 'Venice' of Brantôme; from bustling towns such as Bergerac to Duras to Monflanquin and pretty riverside villes such as Lalinde. You can get general information regarding Dordogne here.

La Bataille de Castillon is a fantastic re-enactment of the end of the 100-Years War with about ten performances in July and August. The cast seems to involve the entire population of Castillon, dozens of horses, cattle, explosions and is excellent entertainment.

Markets are great fun! You can buy fresh produce and wines there and they are a great way of seeing a slice of rustic French life that has hardly changed for generations; and will hopefully remain with us forever. The hubbub, smells of cheese, coffee, Gauloise and cooking, free-form parking and a few outrageous berets and other costumes are like nowhere else, and great fun. Leave the world behind and immerse yourself in another world. You couldn't be further away from the office! |
